PlayStation Has FINALLY Officially Announced PSN ID Name Changes

On October 10, PlayStation announced that changes to your PSN Online ID "is coming", starting with a select group of test users.

That's it! There's going to be a preview program for registered PlayStation testers during which all name changing will be free.

The blog post added: "During the preview, you will be able to change your online ID as many times as you want". After that, each change will cost $4.99/£3.99 for PS Plus members or $9.99 £7.99 for non-members. Unfortunately, not all titles will support the new online ID, as Sony explains that players may "occasionally encounter issues or errors in certain games". The long-fabled PSN name change will finally be a reality.

You'll soon be able to change your terribly PSN ID. If you wish to revert, you can do so for free, though you can only do this once during the preview program. The changes will be available in the Settings menu and Profile page on PS4.

If you make it into the preview program, you can change your ID to your heart's content until the beta wraps up at the end of November 2018. You'll see a game compatibility list when name changing officially arrives. So 24 year-old TW33NY_BOppErZ can now rest easy that they can change their handle to something more palatable in the new year.

It will also be compatible with a "large majority" of "the most played PS4 games that were released before this date".

When you change your name, you will have the option to display your old name alongside your new one to help friends recognize you - but once you change your name and select to enable this (or not), it can not be changed.

KitGuru Says: I've been wanting to change my name for quite some time after my online moniker was inexplicably denied. "The full roll-out of the feature to all PS4 owners is planned for early 2019, so stay tuned for updates down the road!"
