Trump told a rally crowd in Montana this summer that that he'd be willing to pay Warren to submit to a DNA test, just as he'd offered in 2012 to pay up if former President Barack Obama produced his birth certificate.
According to the report, "the great majority of (Warren's) identifiable ancestry is European".
Bustamante calculated that Warren's pure Native American ancestor appears in her family tree "in the range of 6-10 generations ago". In addition to the DNA analysis that fit with family stories, Warren also released a campaign-style video with clips of President Trump mocking her and vignettes from her family history.
Ms Warren was an architect of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau set up after the 2008 financial crisis and has been a strong voice in the US Senate on financial issues.
"He's talking about stuff he doesn't have any idea about", Mark Herring, Warren's nephew, says in the video.
The test: Warren's ancestry was analyzed on a "chip" that looked at 764,958 sites where people's DNA letters commonly differ. "What kid would? But I knew my father's family didn't like that she was part Cherokee and part DE, so my parents had to elope", she said, reiterating that she hadn't gotten any benefits because of her heritage. "I know that everybody likes to pick their junk science or sound science depending on the conclusion, it seems some days", Conway told reporters. If her great-great-great-grandmother was Native American, that puts her at 1/32nd American Indian. But in Warren's telling, this distant genetic inheritance had profound implications for her immediate family. "Period", Jay Westbrook, a professor at the University of Texas Austin School of Law, says in the video.
The information is unlikely to dissuade the President from continuing to zero in on the controversy surrounding Warren's background.
Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) took a DNA test to prove she had Native American ancestry, Trump denied he ever made the commitment. "Please send the check to the National Indigenous Women's Resource Center", Warren tweeted, including a link to the group's website.
Specifically, Trump has claimed that the MA senator fraudulently identified as Native American during her career, as a means of exploiting affirmative action in academic hiring.
"I didn't say that". "No, you'd better read it again".
Warren's decision to take a DNA test and release the results called to mind something Trump had said during a July 5 rally in Great Falls, Mont. - that he would personally give $1 million to Warren's favorite charity if she took a DNA test. I think this is part of her spin strategy: Knowing how embarrassing this all looks for her, the only way out is to go on offense.
Earlier this year, the senator released personnel files seeking to dispute critics who have alleged that the former Harvard Law School professor advanced her law career with a narrative that she is a descendant of Cherokee and DE tribes. That could further excite her critics instead of placating them. "Maybe they do it to distract from the kinds of changes I'm fighting for". If one ancestor 300 years ago is enough to entitle you to "appropriate" a particular culture, there'll be very few cultures that can't properly be appropriated by the average white American. In fact, the minimum requirement for someone to join most tribes is 1/16th - if not more.
