Mega Millions jackpot hits $868 million, second-largest in USA history

The drawing for $667-million was the fourth largest in USA history.

The numbers drawn Tuesday night were 69, 45, 61, 3, 49, and the Mega Ball was 9.

The last victor for the top Mega Millions prize was on July 24, when a group of California office workers won the $543 million jackpot. The chance of matching all six numbers and taking home the grand prize is one in 302.5 million, while the odds of winning any Mega Millions prize are one in 24, Reuters reported.

While California didn't sell the Mega Millions jackpot, Lotto officials tweeted that a 5 of 6 victor was sold in San Francisco.

In 2016, there was a $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot, according to Reuters. It's the second largest payout in lottery history.

There was no victor for Tuesday night's Mega Millions. Jackpots start at $40 million, and other prizes pay from $1 million to $2 million or more with a Megaplier. The Maryland trio went for the cash option of $158 million.
