Friday's Mega Millions jackpot soars to $1 billion

That's right. Mega Millions "entered historic territory" Saturday after officials confirmed there were no winners for Friday's drawing.

Powerball has climbed since there was a victor in NY on August 11. The next Mega Millions drawing is Tuesday with the jackpot expected to exceed the US record of $1.6 billion.

In that time 26 people have won $1 million for matching every number but the Powerball.

But with Mega Millions at a USA record $1.6 billion, you could say Powerball's potential payout after Saturday's drawing is just a measly $476 million.

The new prize for Wednesday's drawing will be the third-largest total in the game's history.

The lump sum payout is an estimated $269.6 million for the Powerball.

Lottery fever is running rampant, and North Carolina players have as good a chance as anyone at winning the games.

Tickets are $2 at any place that sells N.C. lottery tickets.

You must match all five numbers plus the Mega number to win the grand prize.

The winning numbers were: 16, 54, 57, 62, 69, and Powerball 23.

The Powerball jackpot now stands at $620 million after no one matched all six numbers in Saturday night's $470 million drawing.

There were a few runner-up prizes handed out, including some $1 million winners in New Jersey and CT.

For an extra $1 you can get a "Power Play" ticket in which you can increase the amount of the smaller prizes, but not the grand prize.
