While, The Athletic claimed that it was a member of Rondo's family who "confronted" Paul's wife, Jada, The Houston Chronicle said someone made "inappropriate" comments to Jada.
This resulted in SpitGate, where a decade's worth of animosity boiled over as Rajon Rondo allegedly spit on Chris Paul, prompting Paul to put his finger in Rondo's face. "It's not that fast", James said after the defeat. "Wish we could have gave them more with this win, but it was very electric". Paul was suspended for poking at and making contact Rondo's face and throwing multiple punches at him. He then re-inserted himself into the situation, throwing a wild punch that could have done serious damage had it connected.
"Unacceptable", Houston's Carmelo Anthony said. "It shouldn't have happened". Paul got in an uppercut of his own, while Ingram then come running back in, winding up for a haymaker that didn't end up doing much damage.
"It's tough. I understand it's tough", the Rockets coach said. He declined to comment on the fight after the game. His defense, rebounding and shooting has been valuable, with averages of 10.5 points, 5.0 boards and a 5-of-12 clip on 3-pointers (as opponents have unsuccessfully dared him to shoot).
"Yeah, James was James. I think I'm going to leave it at that".
Rockets: Harden got a technical foul in the second quarter when he halfheartedly shoved Stephenson, who sold it impressively.
Lonzo Ball, who has been playing on a minutes restriction, will likely be given full rein as starting point guard.
The fight could leave with both teams without key rotation players due to suspension.
Paul began serving his suspension on Sunday night, when the Rockets lost to the Clippers 115-112 at Staples Center.
"I don't know, I might rest him (on a) back-to-back", D'Antoni said.
"No, it actually - we're not friends anymore", he said with a smirk.
James joined the Lakers in the summer, and joined a team of youngsters and prospects.
"We try to judge each one of these [incidents] on the merits: who does what, who instigates, how risky the situation becomes and is", VanDeWeghe said. That sparked the Lakers, which led to Brandon Ingram shoving James Harden after a play. "They've just been together for so long. And now it's about next man up, moving forward, and keep positive, keep getting better".
