Prince Charles, Camilla in Ghana on second Africa stop

It would be recalled that the Prince of Wales's last visit to Ghana was in March 1977.

Charles was given a tour of Osu Castle, the former seat of government, which has since been transformed into a museum.

The Royal visit to Ghana formed part of a week-long tour of West Africa to strengthen ties with the Commonwealth nations.

And, of course, within their family, George, Charlotte and Louis, who were treated to a tribute to adorable prince Charles, are also very loved and pampered.

In February, Gambia was accepted back into the Commonwealth of Nations, which is made up mostly of countries that were once British colonies.

Gambia's President Adama Barrow sits with Britain's Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, at McCarthy Square during an official welcome ceremony in Banjul, Gambia November 1, 2018.

"So, too, can we commit ourselves, together, to addressing with all urgency some of the most pressing challenges facing our world, such as climate change, resource depletion, youth unemployment and rapid urbanisation, and to do so by harnessing the remarkable professional expertise and experience upon which the Commonwealth and her member states can draw".

Barrow, who won a December 2016 election that Jammeh rejected, is attempting to rehabilitate Gambia's image overseas.

Following the event at MacCarthy Square, where the Union Jack was lowered in 1965 and the Gambian flag raised, the Duchess of Cornwall visited a middle school on the outskirts of Banjul to donate a metalwork lathe and plant a tree.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that First Lady Melanie Trump of the United States had also visited Ghana recently to promote her "Be Best" child welfare initiative.

During their visit to Accra, Charles and Camilla are due to attend a State Banquet celebrating the ties between the United Kingdom and Ghana.

Jammeh took over The Gambia, the smallest country on land in Africa, in a military coup in 1994 and installed a structure of oppression.
