Ron DeSantis Defeats Andrew Gillum In Tight Florida Governor's Race

Republican candidate Ron DeSantis has defeated Democrat Andrew Gillum on Tuesday to become the next governor of Florida.

The campaign says it's monitoring the situation and preparing for a possible state-mandated recount.

"We are going to ensure that every vote is counted", Freid tweeted last night.

After winning the Republican nomination largely on the strength of Trump's endorsement, DeSantis turned to Trump's top 2016 Florida strategist to jump-start his general campaign when it stalled in September.

"There are votes left to be counted, but we have a very strong lead". "I still plan to be on the front lines alongside every one of you when it comes to standing up and fighting for what we believe in".

The exit polls found that DeSantis won 60 percent of the white vote and 14 percent of the black vote against Florida's first African-American nominee for governor.

The Republican Party had no immediate response to the developments, but Mr. Scott's campaign said bluntly that Mr. Elias was launching an effort to steal the election. Bill Nelson. A margin of 0.25 or less would trigger a hand recount.

The DeSantis-Gillum campaign was among the most closely watched in the country this midterm election season.

Fox News projected DeSantis, a former congressman, would win with 99 percent of precincts reporting. He has also criticized Gov. Rick Scott (R) for opposing Medicaid expansion. An overvote is when a voter fills in more than one circle on the ballot for a given race; an undervote is when a voter leaves a race blank.

"I think even in conceding that this is such a close race that DeSantis has to hear that this is a state divided and that our voices still need to be heard", said Chris Lucas.

Florida Governor-elect Ron DeSantis, right, answers questions from reporters, with his wife Casey, after being declared the victor of the Florida gubernatorial race at an election party in Orlando, Fla., Nov. 6, 2018.

"People are going out and they're voting for something and not against".

It's unknown how many provisional ballots have been cast statewide in Florida this year.

Unlike courting pre-election votes, campaign staff must now encourage those who have already voted - specifically those with previsional ballots - to go to their county's election supervisor and cure the issues that could have jeopardized their vote.

In a race too close to call, Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is up by the slimmest of margins against Tallahassee mayor Andrew Gillum (D).

Additionally, most counties have yet to review and tabulate all provisional ballots cast in the election, and there's also a 10-day window on overseas vote-by-mail ballots to come into elections offices.

"We are requesting the total number of provisional ballots in Pasco County, and the voter information for these ballots", Grace Albergo, regional political director for Scott's campaign, wrote in an email published by The Tampa Bay Times.
