Pokemon Detective Pikachu Movie Trailer

The Pokemon fever dream of a live-action movie where Pikachu is a detective voiced by Deadpool's Ryan Reynolds is coming true. This looks about as totally insane as it sounds, and it's not surprising they made a Pokemon movie this fast thanks to that popularity of the mobile game.

With Ryan Reynolds starring as Pikachu, Justice Smith playing Tim Goodman, and other stars such as Kathryn Newton and Ken Watanabe joining the cast too, this strikes us as having a great deal of potential.

In addition to the trailer itself, an official poster for Detective Pikachu was revealed on Twitter, and it's chock-full of its own poke-references. But Tim used to be an aspiring Pokemon trainer, and with his ability to hear what Pikachu can say to him, the pair team up to solve the mystery.

Hot on the heels of the new trailer, Legendary Pictures has released a colorful new poster for the anticipated Detective Pikachu movie which you can check out in full in the gallery below! It's just amusing to see another trailer drop so soon; you have to wonder if it's because Disney wasn't happy with Monday's stolen thunder. Every shot feels like a love letter to the franchise, with recognizable Pokémon like Mr. Mime and Jigglypuff front and center, to the lesser known, like the Emolga gleefully watching the food stand crowds.

The first trailer arrived Monday and the film, helmed by "Goosebumps" director Rob Letterman, is set to hit theaters May 10, 2019.
