Watch Elton John's magical, heartwarming John Lewis Christmas ad

Called The Boy in the Piano, it begins with the musician sat playing the opening bars of Your Song before it goes back in time to show his career and then his childhood, when he was given his grandmother's piano.

This will presumedly include him receiving his piano for Christmas, as shown in the John Lewis ad.

Some even claimed the advert was a thinly veiled promotion for upcoming biopic Rocketman, featuring Taron Egerton as Sir Elton.

The stadium scene is done with computer-generated imagery.

It's here. John Lewis have launched their 2018 Christmas advertising campaign, The Boy And The Piano.

"The ad is absolutely fantastic and I've truly loved every minute of being a part of it".

The almost two-and-a-half minute ad tells the story of Elton's first piano and how it was "more than just a gift" and helped him become the musical icon he is today.

John Lewis' latest festive ad will air on TV for the first time at 9.15pm tonight (15.11.18) during an ad break for Dark Heart.

Having reportedly donated his £5 million fee to his charity, the Elton John Charitable Trust, Elton's husband David Furnish admitted that making the ad was an emotional experience for the star.

It is the second of the retailer's Christmas ads to feature Your Song after singer Ellie Goulding recorded a cover for the 2010 campaign.

Many users said the ad is too Elton John marketing heavy, especially considering he is about to embark on his "final" world tour 'Yellow Brick Road'. When you've stopped crying (about how expensive pianos are), obvs.

This year department store rival Debenhams was criticised for releasing a Christmas advert similar to John Lewis's 2017 offering. Plus, you'll be able to buy vintage-style Elton John T-shirts online and in the flagship store too.
