Following the draw against Palace he criticized the hunger of his players and he has stood by those comments.
Luke Shaw admits you need a "thick skin" to play for Jose Mourinho but says he has "enjoyed" the Manchester United manager's tough love. "But then sometimes you have matches where the profile is a little bit different and obviously you are frustrated".
"I want the team to start strong, go strong on the opposition, not to be waiting", he said. Probably the fans think José told them to start slow [in recent games] but it's the opposite. "I want them to start strong and have a go nearly immediately".
United have endured their worst start to a Premier League season in 28 years, with Mourinho's side managing only eight goals in eight domestic games at Old Trafford so far this campaign. "Let's forget against Valencia, let's play this game like a game we have to win".
Young Boys enters the contest at the bottom of Group H, with one point claimed through four matches. We just depend on ourselves. "But I want to play from minute one like it is the last chance we have to qualify", Mourinho said. "I want to play this game as a knockout game".
It was Fellaini and a quite sensational celebration from Mourinho that would steal that show in the end though as they somehow managed to win a game that appeared to be heading towards a goalless draw.
United will be without injured Sweden defender Victor Lindelof while Swiss champions Young Boys, who lost the reverse fixture 3-0, are missing French striker Guillaume Hoarau because of an ankle problem. We are not coming from the city center.
"We are going to stay in a hotel just a few metres away and the information I have from the club and the club contacts with the police is that things are going to be much better than the last time".
"What he said the other day, that was more a generational thing", said Shaw.
However, Mourinho rejected suggestions that his players find it easier to play away and laughed off a suggestion that playing at Old Trafford brought added pressure ahead of facing the Swiss champions. "If we can have Victor available for the Christmas period it will be good".
"If you feel pressure where people come to support, stay and watch on TV".
[Victor will have a] scan tomorrow, but by the experience of the medical department and the feelings of the player, he has a muscular problem and a muscular problem takes time, revealed Mourinho at his pre-match press conference.
