Louis Riddick | SportsCenter: Kareem Hunt's release a result of 'choices people make

In the interview, Hunt said the National Football League has never asked him about the incident. Hunt also filed a cross-complaint, claiming Ottinger was the actual assailant.

Salters: What didn't you tell the Chiefs back then?

She said she wanted Hunt prosecuted for the alleged assault and/or for stealing her phone's SIM card. "So if there was just words, you can back out of that situation". It was a tough conversation. "The Chiefs - they did what was right". The NFL did reach out to the woman and her friend, but they did not respond.

"The Chiefs are right".

He went on to say, "When everybody else saw the video, that's when I saw the video".

The league eventually hired more staff to conduct such investigations, and announced it would take a more active role in handling similar cases in the future.

Hunt spoke on ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown.

The league uses a standard investigative process in such cases in which witnesses, complainants and the police are contacted before the player is.

It's unclear how much preparation Hunt had prior to the interview, or who gave it to him if he did.

"The NFL's ongoing investigation will include further attempts to speak to the complainants involved in the incident", the statement said.

The league reiterated that point in a new statement Sunday.

"That's not an excuse", he said. I'm not the type of person to ever even think about putting my hands on anyone.

"I was in the wrong, I could have took responsibility and, you know, made the right decision to find a way to deescalate the situation".

We're told police viewed the incident as an alleged misdemeanor assault, because, to the best of their knowledge, the woman hadn't suffered any serious injury.

"I deeply regret what I did. It's tough because I feel like I let a lot of people down". Rice was originally suspended for two games by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who later was heavily criticized for such a light penalty after the video was released. Ware, who led the Chiefs in rushing in 2016, only to lose the starting job to Hunt last season because of a season-ending knee injury in preseason, rushed for 47 yards and a touchdown against the Raiders. He also had proven to be a popular player in the locker room, often attending sporting events and other functions with his teammates. Of course, there is a video.

Kareem Hunt addressed the media for the first time since his release from the Chiefs.

Foster has since been signed by Washington and put on the NFL's exempt list.

Hunt: I just didn't tell them the video, the video part of it that came out.

The problem for Hunt is that it's going to be hard to argue that the February incident was a one-time lapse in judgement if he went out and punched a guy in the face just four months later. I made a bad choice.
