White Man Kills Black Girl, 7, In Drive-By Shooting, Police Say

The family of five was leaving a Walmart parking lot Sunday morning in the Houston area when a man driving a red pickup truck pulled up to the side of their auto and started shooting, reported KHOU-TV.

The red pickup fled the scene after the shooting.

In addition to the girl and her mother, two teenagers and a younger girl were also in the vehicle, Gonzalez said.

The girl, who has not been identified, was leaving the Walmart at 15491 Wallisville at Beltway in the Wallisville section at about 7 a.m. when an unknown man shot into their vehicle, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The unidentified man pulled his red pickup truck beside a parked auto and began shooting, killing 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes, The Associated Press reported Monday. He says three other girls ages 15 and younger were also in the vehicle at the time. The mother was transported with an injury to her arm to an area hospital, Razo said. "A total of 5 occupants in the auto witnessed this child, their loved one, shot and killed before their eyes".

"Suspected shooter described as white male, 40s, a beard, driving a red truck. So senseless. It's never easy, and extra hard during the holiday season", Gonzalez tweeted.

At a media briefing, Harris County Sheriff's Office Major Jesse Razo advised the public that the killer may confide in someone about the crime, and urged anyone with information to come forward.

The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear.

"Of course they're shaken, they're devastated, they lost a sister", Razo said. We will locate you, we will find you, ' he added.
