Harry Kane Chalks Off Fantastic Milestone As Spurs Smash Cardiff

Mauricio Pochettino admitted it was vital for Tottenham Hotspur to start the new year with a bang and record a "massive" victory at Cardiff City that reignites their hopes of staying in the Premier League title race.

Pochettino, who despite garnering credit for developing young players is yet to win a trophy in his managerial career, says he will be able to fill the large gap that will be left with Son leaving for Asian Cup duty.

Spurs reignited their Premier League title efforts following their surprise defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.

Mauricio Pochettino is not overly concerned about Christian Eriksen's contract situation at Tottenham and is convinced that "no news is good news".

The answer was emphatic and unequivocal. After 20 games, Spurs are again third in the table.

Cardiff defender Sean Morrison tried to clear the ball out of his area but it struck the midriff of Kane and ended up dribbling over the goal line.

The game was effectively over in the 26th minute when Son Heung-Min produced a clinical finish with a shot on the turn after being well set-up by Kane.

On making changes, Pochettino added: "It is more collective than two, three or four players". However, the Argentine can be expected to make wholesale changes in Friday's FA Cup tie at Tranmere and ensure his main men are fresh for Tuesday's Carabao Cup semifinal against Chelsea.

"I think we are so happy and so pleased".

Though Sissoko is yet to score in the league this season, he has provided the energy in midfield which has earned him the adulation of the fans.

Spurs made it 2-0 after just 12 minutes with a classy goal from Eriksen.

He didn't want any questions on the subject, but it was the biggest story at his club, and indeed across the entire Premier League on that day.

But Spurs were quickly ahead from a move which Kane started and finished for his 18th goal of the season.

Liverpool and City have been the two best teams in the league this season and it was thought that they would be closer to each other in the table at this point.
