Pregnant Meghan Markle called a 'fat lady' by doting pensioner

Meghan's mother was the only member of her family to attend the royal wedding last May and even accompanied the Duchess to the the launch of the Together cookbook she supported with the women of the Hubb Community Kitchen.

The mum-to-be let out a big laugh, and simply replied, "I'll take it!"

She was visiting Mayhew, an animal charity she's recently become the patron of, when she stepped out in the H&M maternity dress.

"Her Royal Highness feels she can use her position to focus attention on, and make a particular difference to these organisations and, more widely, the sectors they each represent".

The animal welfare organisation uses public donations to improve the lives of dogs, cats and people who live locally and internationally. This is Her Royal Highness's first official visit to Mayhew in her new role as Patron of the charity.

She now owns two rescue dogs - a beagle named Guy and a Labrador-Shepherd mix named Bogart, who remains in Toronto, Canada with her friends.

The duchess picked up the dog when she spotted it was shivering and clutched it to her chest when she chatted to Mayhew staff who told her about the charity's projects in India and Afghanistan.

Earlier this week, the Duchess of Sussex revealed she is six months pregnant with her baby due around the end of April or beginning of May.

Holding Maggie, who was brought to the Mayhew in November after her owner was unable to care for her, the Duchess said: "We can't get another dog before the baby, our hands are full".

Meghan looked particularly chuffed when she met ex-resident Maggie (previously known as Truffle), who is a Jack Russell, just like the former actress's dogs Bogart and Guy.
