Iconic US musician Chris Brown has been arrested in Paris after a 24-year-old girl accused him of sexually assaulting her in his hotel room.

The police are still investigating the case, the French prosecutor's office added.

The alleged victim says she met Brown overnight between January 15th and 16th at the club Le Crystal.

However, a source close to Brown argues he was never alone with the woman, claiming the singer's girlfriend, Ammika Harris, was in the hotel room the entire time. The woman additionally claimed that Brown's friend and his bodyguard also abused her.

Though Brown, from Virginia, is a Grammy-winning star with numerous hit songs to his name, his professional accomplishments have always been overshadowed by reports of violent behavior.

He went off the radar following the assault on Rihanna before launching a comeback in 2011 with the new album F.A.M.E., which debuted at number one in the United States charts.

In 2013, he was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor assault after a man said he was struck by Brown outside a Washington, D.C. hotel.
