When is Groundhog Day and how to people celebrate it?

The groundhog has seen his shadow 104 times and has not only 18 times in the past between 1887 and 2018.

Gentlemen in top hats form the inner circle and look after Phil and their prediction was somewhat a surprise as in past years they have often announced six more weeks of winter.

The groundhog will leave his burrow at Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania on February 2 for the annual Groundhog Day ceremony.

But if there are cloudy skies when the groundhog comes above ground then the spring season will arrive early.

Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his burrow in Pennsylvania at sunrise and did not see his shadow.

Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son is a "virtual reality adventure game" coming to major virtual reality platforms, including PlayStation Virtual Reality, later this year. Using data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Punxsutawney Phil is only 3% accurate in predicting his local weather trends.

Why is Groundhog Day a thing?

And while Punxsutawney Phil is the most famous weather-predicting groundhog, he is not the only one.

Not to dash spring-lovers dreams - Punxsuatawney Phil's accuracy is only around 39% to 40% over the past 133 years. His New York counterpart, Staten Island Chuck, also predicted an early spring.

Punxsutawney held its first Groundhog Day in the 1800's. Some of the events listed on the schedule include chain saw carving demos, a screening of the film Groundhog Day, the "Gobbler's Knob Got Talent" talent show and the Groundhog Ball, to name a few.
