Grizzlies trade Marc Gasol to Toronto

The Toronto Raptors are nearing an agreement to trade for Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Whether he can still reach the heights of peak Gasol, a player the Raptors had eyes on over the years according to intermittent reports, is of more debate.

The Memphis Grizzlies are working on deals with the Toronto Raptors and Detroit Pistons after Mike Conley Jr. and his representatives have made it clear they would prefer Conley not be traded to the Utah Jazz, ESPN insider Brian Windhorst said on The Jump. The former second-team All-American is averaging 8.0 points, 2.9 asissts, 2.9 rebounds and 20 minutes this season in his third season as an National Basketball Association reserve.

Like Ibaka, Gasol does a lot of that scoring from midrange. It is not so much that Gasol is no longer good, because he is.

"It's a business", the All-Star point guard reasons. His comfort spotting up on the 3-point line will draw opposing centres out of the paint and he'll give them another pick-and-pop threat, albeit one who can venture out to the 3-point line.

Sam Amick and Tony Jones of The Athletic both reported that the Pacers have been in contact with the Memphis Grizzlies about Conley. It's just a matter of how far they're willing to go to get him.

The 7-foot Valanciunas is averaging 12.8 points and 7.2 rebounds this season.

That'll become in handy when he's on the floor with the second unit that has struggled with consistency this season.

The combination means Gasol should be able to replace Valanciunas, Wright and Miles on offence. That solid move from the Raptors just wasn't enough to save their Twitter account from plenty of roasting.

"I've been in rumours so many times I don't even look at it", Valanciunas said.
