LeBron, Giannis choose their teams for the All-Star Game

It's also unclear how James drafted his team as the National Basketball Association didn't yet televise the event.

The significance of LeBron selecting Davis was not lost on Giannis Antetokounmpo-the captain of the other All-Star team.

Once Antetokounmpo started that round with Milwaukee teammate Khris Middleton, it was a relative no-brainer for James to go with Davis.

Now they've reaped the rewards of their captaincy and picked their team's playground-style from a pool of starters voted in by fans, players and media and reserves selected by coaches.

Davis, Irving and James were also teammates in the 2018 All-Star Game, though in that instance the three were starters.

With the entire basketball world anticipating James taking old friend and championship teammate Dwyane Wade with the special selection pick, James pretended to shock the NBA at Nowitzki's expense.

LeBron James selected longtime rival Kevin Durant with the first pick in the All-Star draft.

The order in which players were taken in last year's draft was not officially revealed, although much of it leaked out, and the fact that this year's would be televised caused some speculation about how embarrassing it would be for whomever was picked last.

"I might pick Steph because he picked me first previous year, so I've got to return the favour", Antetokounmpo said after Milwaukee's 113-94 victory over Brooklyn. "I'm just kidding. I'm going with my buddy Dwyane Wade".

James managed to make a trade, convincing Antetokounmpo to swap Westbrook for Simmons - and give the Bucks' star the chance to have Westbrook and Embiid together, as he said he wanted.

"I'm going to enjoy it", Wade said.

Antetokounmpo selected two centers, Orlando Magic's Nikola Vucevic and Denver Nuggets' Nikola Jokic alongside Detroit Pistons forward Nikola Jokic.
