First ‘Aladdin’ TV Spot Reveals Will Smith as Genie

A trailer for Disney's live-action Aladdin dropped during Sunday night's Grammy Awards.

Watch Disney's Aladdin trailer above and decide for yourself: Duke basketball fan or Paul Giamatti in Big Fat Liar? Have they not seen the Will Smith genie yet? "Genie: Name it. Aladdin: Delete this movie already", Md Kd wrote. I'm now actually hoping that Will Smurf (as Trevor has affectionately dubbed him) stays in his human form instead for most of the movie.

Smith's Genie who steals the show, however. Many fans were outraged, anxious that the remake's genie would not be blue like the animated Robin Williams version of old.

"LEMME OUT! Can't wait for y'all to see Me BLUE!" exclaimed the actor under his Instagram post of a magic lamp sat on a deep purple background.

I gotta say, it is pretty weird seeing this big blue dude with Will Smith's smiling face plastered on top.

The blueness of the genie seems to sit in opposition to previous studio-released looks of Smith in full genie getup, which feature a decidedly less-blue skin tone. "There hasn't been a lot of that hip-hop flavor in Disney history". "I think this is the first Disney trailer I've ever disliked".

Kyle Buchanan went as far as comparing Smith's Genie to "a spoiler for BIRD BOX because I finally understand what image would make them so fascinated but also want to kill themselves".

Will Smith plays Genie in the live action "Aladdin" remake.

Aladdin opens on May 23 in Australia and May 24 in the U.S. and UK.

The new promo showcases Mena Massoud's Aladdin rubbing the magical lamp and out comes Smith's Genie.
