Bencic beats Kvitova to win Dubai Championships title

Belinda Bencic is hoping to emulate her Hopman Cup partner Roger Federer to trump Petra Kvitova in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships final here, Saturday.

"We agreed that the next title I won, we would go skydiving", the Swiss said after ending a four-year trophy drought, explaining that the dare-devil plan may not please her father and coach, Ivan. "Somehow I was still focused, I don't know why", Bencic said.

Second seed Petra Kvitova recovered from a set down against Hsieh Su-wei to end the unseeded Taiwanese's run at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Friday with a 3-6 6-2 6-4 victory that saw the Czech reach her third final of the year. "I really had to be very, very low, bend my knees, whatever I really needed", said Petra Kvitova about Hsieh Su-wei.

As for why she's had so much success after falling behind in match after match, she said: "I think I relax".

Svitolina failed the first set of the match against the 45-th racket of the world Belinda Bencic. "She had a lot of aces (nine), I'm just happy I was able to make it back".

In the end, for all her guile and improvisational shot-making, Hsieh had no answer to Kvitova's raw power, mustering just 14 clean winners compared to 48 from her opponent.

"I feel like I've been playing better when I'm 3-5 down".

The Ukrainian, who won the last two editions of the Dubai tournament, did not give up without a fight, breaking Bencic early before running away with the second set to force a decider.

"With Hsieh, I need to be a little bit patient".

Of her sparkling form so far this year she said: "It's a bit weird, to be honest". Second seed Kvitova, victor of the event in 2013, left nothing to chance as she crushed Viktoria Kuzmova 6-4, 6-0.

Belinda Bencic edged past defending champion Elina Svitolina 6-2 3-6 7-6 (3).

The Czech, with 26 career titles, earned two breaks of her own in the second, with Hsieh saving a set point in the penultimate game before the contest levelled at a set apiece. "I think he will (return)", Judy was quoted as saying by Sky Sports at the Rio Open.

"I'm a bit exhausted right now, to be honest. Hopefully I have a few hours to do something". "I played two long matches before, and I'm still fine, which is great".

Speech in Dubai brought Elina Svitolina 130 thousand dollars in prize money and 350 points in the WTA rankings.
