And while Phillies fans may be on the fence about Harper after showing some reservations about signing, the charismatic 26-year-old superstar should have no problem winning the fan base over if he replicates his 2015 MVP season.
With the calendar turning to March in a matter of days, there is no doubt that Scott Boras and Bryce Harper are looking to get his deal signed so he can report to spring training and begin prepping with his new team. Philadelphia has been considered the favorite to acquire Harper for weeks, and owner John Middleton said in the fall that the organization might be "stupid" about spending money if that's what it would take to sign a top free agent.
This might be the most logical explanation for why Harper has yet to make a decision.
Just because the process is taking longer than some thought doesn't mean fans won't buy Harper jerseys, t-shirts, or tickets to games. Multiple reports continue to indicate that the Phillies have made Harper the biggest offer, making it curious that the free agent continues to explore other options.
Washington Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper (34) jogs into the dugout in between innings in an Major League Baseball game between the Washington Nationals and the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 7, 2017, at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, CA.
This could exclude the Dodgers from the running.
The bidding is down to the Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants. "I would say that teams have checked in that we haven't heard much of, or anything of, but whether they are really a true mystery team that has a real shot, I wouldn't vouch for it".
Maybe it'll be the Dodgers taking advantage of this weird market to land Harper on a surprising deal.
