Broncos trading quarterback Case Keenum to Washington

Given the Redskins bad cap situation in the wake of the Alex Smith injury, Keenum's free-agent deal signed all of one year ago would presumably need reworked.

The Redskins will also get a seventh-round draft pick in the deal, while they give up a sixth-round selection. He threw for 3,890 yards with 18 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 16 games.

The writing was on the wall when the Denver Broncos worked on a trade for Joe Flacco. With Flacco on the roster, it was believed that Keenum's days in Denver were numbered and this latest deal proves that.

After just one season as the starting quarterback in Denver, Keenum's time with the team looked like it was coming to an end. Denver will also pay $3.5 million of the $7 million Keenum was guaranteed for 2019.

When the Philadelphia Eagles faced the Washington Redskins in Week 17 of the 2018 season, journeyman Josh Johnson started for Washington. Washington paid big money to Alex Smith previous year, but he suffered a gruesome leg injury, and he isn't expected to return in 2019.

Case Keenum is heading to Washington.

Sources: The #Redskins and #Broncos are working a trade for QB Case Keenum to land in Washington. On Dec. 5, Emmanuel Sanders, who rose to No. 1 receiving threat when Demaryius Thomas was traded to Houston, tore an Achilles at practice.

However, Keenum regressed in his first, and only, season with the Broncos, leading the team to a 6-10 record and the first back-to-back losing seasons for the club since 1972. That led Elway to fire Vance Joseph and replace him with Vic Fangio.

As he cleaned out his locker after the final game, Keenum said, "I learned a lot this year". I have enjoyed every second of it. "It was an honor".
