Steelers interested in free-agent WR Golden Tate

The Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers are interested in Tate, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, via the Providence Journal's Mark Daniels.

Golden Tate may end up with an Oscar before another Super Bowl ring. But instead of wearing the Philadelphia Eagles' midnight green, he'll be wearing the blue of the New York Giants.

Most of the big-name wide receivers in 2019 free agency have already found new homes, but there are still a handful of quality talents on the market. But the nine-year pro will give quarterback Eli Manning a steady target. This past season with both teams, he caught 74 passes for 795 yards and four touchdowns.

Veteran wide receiver Golden Tate is not going very far, as he will stay in the division and join the Giants on a surprising deal worth $37.5 million over four years. He's caught at least 70 passes in each of his last five seasons. That's good, but it's concerning that Tate's two-worst-graded seasons (since his rookie year) have come in 2018 and 2016. And he figures to be a big positive for an offense that played much better as 2018 wore on.

The New York Giants split their final eight games this past season after a 1-7 start.

"My years are limited", Tate said at the time.

In the aftermath of their decision to trade away superstar receiver Odell Beckham, the Giants have insisted that they have a plan without telling us what that plan is. Is this really a team in rebuilding mode?
